CORE 25 Years Past and Present

November 29, our club celebration night for our annual Christmas party, AND the club’s 25th anniversary, was a great success. About 40 people attended, for a wonderful dinner with all the fixings, games, slide shows and a few celebrants even kicked up their heels for some dancing.

In between the various presentations, the Year-in-Review slide show.

We kicked off the festivities with a short slide show commorating the people and remarkable events surrounding the beginnings of the club in 1999.

Here we are lining up for dinner. Aimee T, the club’s founding matriarch (1999), joined us for the occasion.

Some after dinner games and other hijinx. There are some more party photos in the photo album.

After dinner we were treated to an AI-generated slide show reminding us in poetic style of all the activities we participated in this year, kindly narrated by a member of Storytelling Alberta. Here are a couple slides, but you can link the file above.

… for mountain hikers…

‘Twas the dawn before hiking, and up in the Rockies,
Not a soul was yet moving, no scrambles or
walkies;
The gear was all packed by the door with  great care,
In hopes that tomorrow, clear skies would be there.

… for those avid cyclists …

Imagine a ride, Santa’s sleigh in the lead,
Drawn by ten e-bikes, all built for speed;
We’ll set off from the north, with pedals in sync,
Skyward we’ll soar, in a dream, don’t you think.

And to finish up, another slide show featuring some archival photos of events and people in the early days of the club.

1999 – A Snowy Edworthy  Potluck

2005 – Heart Mountain hike

2014 – Tent Ridge

2021 – Ha Ling winter hike

2002 – Crypt Lake hike

2009 – Dickson Bike Trip

2016 – West Wind Pass hike

2024 – Horse Creek Road ride

So that was it. We had a wonderful time. See you all again next year.

EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK September-October 2024

Cho-La-Pass

Al Renner, a CORE member, has had an interest in Mount Everest and Everest Base Camp for many, many years. Recently he has taken his interest one step further by securing a guide to lead a private trek into Everest Base Camp this fall (2024). The trek will not follow the standard route as the group will be going via the Gokyo Lakes and Cho La Pass. It will be about 15 days of trekking. The dates are September 30th to October 19th, 2024. These dates are firm as Al has already paid the deposit for the group. The trip currently has room for 8 to 10 more hikers.
