May to mid-June 2016 ACTIVITY SCOREBOARD<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

We’re having a great start to our Spring \/Summer season. In May<\/strong> there were 20 outings posted on the calendar, from urban walks, tennis and social dining to some first forays into the mountains (well, the foothills, anyway). And we conducted a very successful AGM with\u00a0 “international pot luck” ordoeuvre’s and refreshments<\/span>, AND we elected a new Executive for 2016-2017. In June<\/strong> so fa<\/em><\/span>r<\/em>, we’ve hiked and scrambled, played tennis, enjoyed the Lilac Festival, danced till the wee hours to the rock sounds of the “Old as Dirt Band” at the Triwood Community Centre, and participated in Trails Fest with Friends of Kananaskis. A pretty busy schedule, all ‘n all.<\/span><\/p>\n

The May membership meeting was the AGM, featuring an international pot luck buffet (a great success), refreshments, a picture show of past year events, schmoozing and swapping tales of the trails, and of course the election of the Executive for 2016-2017.<\/p>\n

This is an informative inter-active outdoor workshop learning local plants identification and as medicine. This event is sponsored by the CORE Peterman Fund and will be fully funded for up to 20 people. The workshop will be presented by\u00a0Anita Szuster (RMT, Dipl.S.T. Practical Herbalist), at the Ribbon Creek Hostel July 16, 10am to 5pm. If interested, please refer to the CORE Event Calendar for July for registration details. A CORE Recipe
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Kim’s Granola Bars (The KGB)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

4 Cups\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vector Cereal (crushed)<\/span><\/p>\n

2 Cups\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Rolled Oats (NOT quick oats)<\/span><\/p>\n

1 Cup\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Currents (or other dried fruit – I like dried blueberries as well)\u00a0 Or 1\/2 and 1\/2.<\/span><\/p>\n

1 Cup\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Flaked Coconut (Unsweetened)\u00a0 I use a heaping cup (and a\u00a0little more if you like)<\/span><\/p>\n

1 Cup\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Walnuts (chopped)\u00a0 ( have tried hazelnuts and found them too dry)<\/span><\/p>\n

Place in a large bowl and mix well.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a pan, melt (on very low heat):<\/span><\/p>\n

2 Cups\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Peanut butter (scant cups)<\/span><\/p>\n

2 Cups\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Semi-sweet chocolate chips<\/span><\/p>\n

1 Cup\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Honey (solid type – NOT the liquid)<\/span><\/p>\n

Once melted, pour over the cereal mixture and mix well.\u00a0 I use my hands at the end of mixing otherwise it may not mix well enough.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pat\/press into an 11″ X 17″ pan.\u00a0 Refrigerate for about 45 minutes to an hour and then cut up into squares.<\/span><\/p>\n

I put them in the freezer so they don’t dry out (and they thaw fast).<\/span><\/p>\n

These are very filling and are a great snack on the trail!<\/span><\/p>\n
