BURSTALL PASS TO COMMONWEALTH CREEK: A spectacular hike over 4 passes in one day. This is a long hike but not overly difficult as the elevation gains are spread out. We’ll hike up to Burstall Pass then head north over a boulder strewn area to an unnamed pass with a view of the Palliser Range. We continue along a slope on an unmaintained trail before ascending to Birdwood pass. From here we have endless views in all directions including the sapphire colored Birdwood lakes. We continue around this bowl a short 2.5 kms to Smuts pass with a view east over Commonwealth creek before descending down to the valley. Car shuffle required. 19.3 km total, 650m total elevation gain. Register with Sylvia at 249-4706.
