Very good hike with four nice lakes and no crowds. Late summer meant we were too early for wildflowers, however. Clear 22C, still some snow at higher elevations. (Unofficial due to 2 last minute scratches.)
HIKE TO ARNICA AND TWIN LAKES (D): Rated Difficult. Descend across Vermillion Pass from Hiway 93, then climb to Arnica Lake. Back down to Upper and Lower Twin Lakes, this trail is never level but offers great changing scenary throughout. 16.4 km but about 1050 m el gain round trip. An optional extension would gain another 250 m in 2 km to reach Gibbon Pass meadows with exceptional views to N. and S. (There may also be a less scenic return option cutting 350 m climb (same-length) via Altrude Creek to Castle Jct.)
