Lots of water in various falls. Some muddy sections with late snow melt barely finished at Elk Pass. Great trip. Did detour to Lower Elk Lake on return leg.
HIKE ELK LAKES, PETAIN FALLS (D): Hike over Elk Pass from K. Lakes road into B.C. Pass Fox Lake and Upper Elk Lake to reach Petain Falls in an amphitheatre of glaciers. Return by partly different loop along the shore of Lower Elk Lake back to Elk Pass. With few steep sections, the Difficult rating is in the distance--31 km with 600m el gain spread on round trip. (Option for same route in and out is 27km.)
